Barde also informed the gathering that the panchayat has already taken the initiative to put up dust bins near Madhalamaz fish market complex at Mandrem. The hoteliers and shopkeepers, however, complained that they have to dump waste anywhere as there is no proper place to dump the garbage.
''We have no faith in the promises given by the panchayat members, as they are known to give only promises but no actions,'' said one of the hoteliers Sandesh Sawant. Pointing out that the panchayat was committed to curbing the plastic menace, the deputy-sarpanch informed villagers that a 'plastic cage' has already been put up near the market complexat Mandrem. The deputy-sarpanch also urged villagers to cooperate with the panchayat in the task of collecting waste from the village thrice a month.
